The story as it happened –
Virat Kohli on Friday announced his decision to retire from the international T20 format with immediate effect. Kohli who was last seen in the T20 format during the world T20 late last year will now focus on ODI and Test Cricket. Kohli wanted to get back into form with the bat and said that he wishes to play the other 2 formats of the game and give youngsters a chance to play international T20. He has communicated his decision to Rohit Sharma the national team captain and also coach Rahul Dravid.
Kohli has his say –
“With a heavy heart I wish to announce my decision to step away from international T20 Cricket, dozen years after making my debut in Zimbabwe. There have been many moments I wish to cherish including the two knocks one against S Africa in 2014 T20 WC and one against Australia during the 2016 WC as my best along with the half century against Pakistan at Eden Gardens right at the top. I have spoken to Rohit and Rahul bhai about this decision and think this is the right moment for the team to move forward and blood young talent with the world cup coming this year”
