Washington Sundar signs up for Lancashire after showing signs of coming back to full fitness

India cricket news is coming thick and fast as the tour of England is just mere days away. India has lots of international cricket on their plate this year, with the tour of England and West Indies. Post which they play the Asia Cup and then host Australia for a short series. India then flies down under to play the T20 world cup which is to begin in October, before coming back home to hop across east to play 2 tests and a few white ball games against Bangladesh.

Washington Sundar on the road to recovery –

Indian cricket youngster Washington Sundar turned a lot of heads with his calm debut during the Gabba test in 2021. He has had some unfortunate time with injuries and also battling COVID. The 22 year old was impressive during his stint with SRH this year before injury cut short his season. Sundar had injured his hand playing for SRH this year and played a handful of games. Sundar since has been recovering and as per sources is now fully on the road to gaining full fitness. Sundar had played 9 games in the IPL and picked 6 wickets with the ball. with the bat he scored 101 runs with a best score of 40 and a strike rate of 146.

Washington Sundar signs for Lancashire –

Washington Sundar has now signed up for Lancashire to get in groove for the red ball cricket. The youngster is expected to play the rest of county season for the team from Old Trafford. According to a BCCI source in the know was heard saying "Washington is nearing full fitness and he needs a lot of game time, which he will get only in red-ball cricket. He is going to play for Lancashire and this exposure will do him a world of good”. Sundar last played for India during the England tour of India, he picked up a knock when he was playing the practice game (incidentally against for a county side) during the 2021 India tour of England.

Sundar till now has played 4 tests for India and scored 3 half centuries with an average of 66. He made his debut in the Gabba test of 2021 and scored an impressive 50 and added crucial runs with Shardul Thakur. With the ball he has picked 6 wickets in the test format. Sundar also has played 4 ODI games and 31 T20 games for the men in blue. While still early to speak about his ODI career, he has turned to be a T20 specialist. Sundar has picked 25 wickets for India with an economy of 7.2, while scoring mere 47 runs with the bat.
