T20 World Cup 2022 began on Sunday with the qualifying rounds taking place. The first two games were played at Geelong Stadium at Melbourne. The first game of the day saw Namibia cause a massive upset when they beat Sri Lanka by 55 runs to start the tournament.

The story as it happened –

UAE and Netherlands played the 2nd game of the day with the Minnows playing perhaps one of the best low scoring thrillers. The match at the Simmonds Stadium at Geelong saw Netherlands take home a close win in the dying stages of the game.

Bas De Leede has Rizwan shell shocked –

Bowling the 19th over, Bas De Leede’s last ball of the over saw him bowl one of the best deliveries of the day. De Leede bowled a scorching Yorker which saw Rizwan having no time to react and get bowled out for 1.

UAE restricted to 111 –

UAE won the toss and chose to bat first. Chirag Suri and Mohammad Waseem opened the innings and added 33 for the 1st wicket. Suri scored 12 before falling to veteran Van Der Merwe. Mohammad Waseem top scored with 41 off 47 balls with a four and 2 sixes. Bas De Leede was the lead wicket taker with 3/19, while Fred Klassen picked 2/13. Pringle and Van Der Merwe picked a wicket each.

Netherlands scrape home to a tense win –

Chasing 112 to win, UAE bowlers were making life tough for the Dutch batters. Max ODwad’s 23 was the top score for Netherlands. Every batter got a start but none could convert it to a huge score. Netherlands won the game by 3 wickets and a ball to spare as UAE bowlers gave a firm fight till the last moment. Junaid Siddique with 3/24 was the lead wicket taker with the ball.
