England have take a huge step in pursuit of winning the test match and drawing the Pataudi series 2-2. At the end of day 4, England needed 119 runs with 7 wickets in hand as Bairstow and Root both are on 70’s. The pair have added 150 runs for the 4th wicket as the Indian bowlers have looked clueless against the two Yorkshire men who have scored at 4 runs per over. The Indian bowlers lost the bite with the ball and a string sloppy fielding and dropped chance off Bairstow has come to bite them.

The 27 year old is just playing his 5th test for India but has been found wanting against the short ball. on Monday post the fall of Pujara for 66, Iyer came out with a positive frame of mind. He struck a few nicely timed boundaries to signal his intentions. That’s when the cameras spotted England test coach Brendon McCullum, tell his wards to bowl short. Iyer was out for 19 off 23 balls when he mistimed a pull off a short ball by Potts to become James Anderson’s 100th test match catch.

India fold for 245 post lunch –

India began the day at 125 for 3 with Pujara and Pant at the crease. Pujara looked busy as he struck a few crunchy shots off the back foot. This sudden aggression cost him as he went for a full blooded cut shot off Broad to be caught by Lees for 66. This broke 78 run stand between Pant and Pujara. Iyer came in to join  his former DC teammate and the duo added 37 runs in 41 balls. Post the fall of Iyer, Pant too fell caught by Root off Leach while Pant was going for a reverse sweep. From there it was steady procession as the lack of intent from the Indian batsmen came to haunt them. Ben Stokes finished with 4 wickets as his short hostile bowling took out the lower order.
