2022 season of Lanka Premier League began on Tuesday with the 5 team championship seeing some high octane action. The 2nd game on Wednesday saw Kandy Falcons take on the Galle Gladiators. The match was played Hambantota and Kandy won their 2nd game in a row to keep up their perfect start to the season intact.

The game saw now suspended Sri Lankan star Chamika Karunaratne suffer a horrible injury during the course of the game. The injury was so horrible that from instant elation the reaction of other players went to shock.

Karunaratne loses 4 teeths and gets his mouth bloodied-

Carlos Brathwaite was bowling to N. Fernando who was batting on 13 off 7 balls. The batter had hit one four and one six and was going for another big shot. That’s when he misted the ball and saw Karunaratne run towards the ball to complete the catch.

The Sri Lankan all rounder managed to complete the catch but immediately covered his face. His team mates who were around to congratulate him were elated only for the reaction to sour within a few minutes. Karunaratne had lost his pearly whites and was left with a bloodied mouth.

Brathwaite pics 4 as Galle end up with 121 on the board –

Galle Gladiators won the toss and chose to bat first and were 2 down for a single run on the board. Azam Khan and Thanuka Dabare were out for 1 and 0 respectively. Captain, Kusal Mendis scored 14 as Iftikhar Ahmed was out for 0.

Carlos Brathwaite did the damage with the ball as he picked 4/14 with a maiden from his 4 overs to leave Galle at 28/5. Movin Subasingha and Imad Wasim with 40 and 34 helped Galle reach 121 from their 20 overs.

Kandy win the game in a canter –

Chasing 122 to win, Kandy won the game with 5 overs to spare as Kamindu Mendis top scored with 44. Pathum Nissanka with 22 and Andre Fletcher with 20 were the other top scorers for the Kandy side.
