England and South Africa on Sunday played the 2nd game of the 3 match ODI series at Bloemfontein. The home side had won the first game by 27 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the series.

This is an important series for South Africa as they need a series win to qualify directly for the ODI cricket world cup. England on the other hand were looking to make a quick turn around after losing the 1st ODI despite being in control for most of the game.

The story so far –

South Africa won the toss and chose to bowl first in the day game at Bloemfontein. Bavuma made a few changes as Rabada, Magala and Shamsi made way for Maharaj, Ngidi and Jansen. England made two changes as Archer and Willey made way for Woakes and Topley.

Klassen’s mistake costs his team 5 runs –

The incident in question happened in the 37th over with Marco Jansen bowling to Buttler. The English captain got a thick edge which evaded a diving Klassen as the South African wicket keeper had one glove off.

When the throw came in, Klassen fumbled the return and the ball hit the glove which was on the ground. The umpires asked Klassen if the ball hit the glove and the wicket keeper flatly denied. Once the replays came on, it was seen the ball had hit the gloves and England were given 5 penalty runs.

England post a mammoth 342 –

Put into bat, Jason Roy was out for 9 as David Malan and Ben Duckett scored 12 and 20 each. Harry Brook scored his first ODI half century before getting out for 80 off 75 balls with 7 fours and 4 sixes.

Skipper Jos Buttler, was not out on 94 off 82 balls with 8 fours and 3 sixes. Moeen Ali also scored his half century with 51 off 44 balls with 6 fours and 1 six, as Sam Curran chipped in with 17 ball 28 not out with a four and 3 sixes as England reached 342 from their 50 overs.
