Indian cricketers are getting set to fly down to UAE for the 2022 edition of Asia Cup which is to be played in the UAE. The main tournament starts with Sri Lanka and Afghanistan locking horns in the first game of the tournament at the Dubai International Stadium on 27th. The next day the world will witness the big clash between India and Pakistan at the same Dubai International Stadium where India had been beaten by Pakistan by ten wickets during the World T20. The Indian team for the tournament will see all the big names return to the Indian line up which also includes Virat Kohli.

The story as it happened –

Rohit Sharma along with Virat Kohli is one of the biggest names in world cricket. Rohit Sharma has a massive fan following across the world, but is revered in Mumbai as he also happens to be the captain of IPL side, Mumbai Indians and led them to five titles under his captaincy. The 35 year old recently stepped outside the hotel on the occasion of India’s independence day. A massive crowd had assembled outside the hotel to watch their local lad and Indian skipper. Seeing such a huge crowd the Indian captain had to go back into the hotel. There was a massive traffic snarl as there was a sea of fans who were waiting to catch one view of their favorite cricketer.

Huge few months ahead for Rohit Sharma –

When the last time Asia Cup was played in 2018, also in UAE, Rohit Sharma was the captain of the side. The Indian team had beaten Bangladesh in the final to claim their 2nd successive title and 7th in all. This is Rohit’s first test as captain as he leads India to a huge tournament after becoming the captain on a full time basis. India first play Pakistan in a revenge game for the humbling defeat they suffered last year during the T20 world cup.

Rohit Sharma post the Asia cup leads the country in two home series against Australia and South Africa. The Indian team then heads down under to play the T20 world cup which begins in October. Seeing the kind of fanfare one can safely assume, Rohit Sharma knows the enormity of task he has at hand as the Indian team’s full time captain as the hopes of the nation rests on his shoulder.
