Watch! Mitchell Starc and Nicolas Pooran left stunned post DRS appeal

Australia began their preparations for the 2022 T20 World Cup against West Indies with a 2 match series. Australia are hosting the tournament for the 1st time but there are some concerns about the Decision Review System already. The first of two matches was played at the Carrara Oval at Brisbane as the defending champs ran out winners by 3 wickets and took a 1-0 lead in the series.

The story as it happened –

Nicolas Pooran was batting on 2 when he got a searing toe crushing yorker from Starc and he went down in an instant after losing his foot. The Australians appealed but the umpire said not out. Aaron Finch went up for a review for LBW. Brad Haddin commentating on air said it was going down leg. Mark Waugh opined by saying “No Doubt about it, that’s missing leg, play on”.

Pooran left stunned as Starc is surprised –

Once the DRS went up there was no inside edge spotted on the bat, the ball was seen to be hitting leg. The umpire had to over turn his decision and Pooran was given out LBW. Pooran had no option but to make his way of the field.

Australian commentators slam the DRS –

Brendon Julian was heard saying “Mitchell Starc cant believe it he was nearly back at the top of his mark. That’s unbelievable, the skipper’s got to go and I don’t think he’s happy about it”. Mark Waugh said “I cant believe the ball has straightened on the angle. We cannot argue with technology, but we will in this case”. Adam White a known cricket expert tweeted and said “That’s a disgrace that was given out. That sort of technology glitch/error should worry a lot of cricket people.”

Aaron Finch leads Australia to 3 wicket win –

Chasing 146 to win, Australia were in spot of bother at 58 for 5, but captain Aaron Finch had other ideas. The Australian skipper slotted himself at 4 and scored 58 off 53 balls with the help of 6 fours. Matthew Wade played the finisher yet again with 39 off 29 balls with 5 fours alongside Starc who was 6*. Australia won the game by 3 wickets with 1 ball to spare.

Twitter reacts to the DRS gaffe –
