India ended their short tour of New Zealand on Wednesday with a 1-0 loss in the 3 match ODI series. The final game of the series was played at Hagley Oval in Christchurch. The match was called off due to heavy rain after New Zealand were placed 104 for 1 after 18 over, while chasing 220 to win.
The entire focus of the day was the long rope given to Rishabh Pant despite him being in bad nick with the bat. Pant, was preferred over Sanju Samson as the 28 year old was made to warm the benches for the 2nd game in a row. This despite him being in good form during the 2022 season.
Harsha Bhogle pins Pant on his form –
The name Harsha Bhogle is revered and respected across all cricketing spectrum. The broadcaster has been manning the booth and asking pertinent questions for over 3 decades.
This time it was the turn of Rishabh Pant to answer the questions posed to him by Harsha Bhogle and someone the entire exchange has earned the ire of the fans. Harsha Bhogle began by asking “Maine Viru se bohut saal pahle ye sawal poocha tha, ab apse puch raha hu. Aapko dekhke lagta hai, white-ball game inki khaas baat hogi but aapka Test record sabse accha hai”
Pant’s rude reply leaves fans angry –
It seemed that Pant’s bad form with the bat has caught up with his mood as well. The left hander wicket keeper batter seemed to be in a curt mood to reply to Bhogle when he said “Sir, record toh ek number hai. Mera white-ball record bhi kharab nahi hai. Thik hai T20 ka”

This reply did not sit down well with the fans as they slammed Pant for his rude behaviour. The fans took exception to the way Pant was seen answering despite the genial and gentle way of question by Harsha Bhogle.
More verbal back and forth between the two –
In a bid to salvage the situation, Harsha Bhogle tried to put his point across in a way where Pant could understand and said “Main kharab nahi kar raha hu, comparison kar raha hu”. Pant though wasn’t budging from his own mis-guided stand and replied “Comparison karna toh sir apne life ka part hi nahi hai na. Abhi main 24-25 years ka hu, comparison karna hai toh jab main 30-32 ka ho jayunga tab karna, usse pahle toh koi logic nahi hai mere liye”
