India and West Indies locked horns in the 2nd ODI at the Queens Park Oval in Trinidad and Tobago. India had won the first game at the same venue by the barest of margins with a 3 run win on Friday. On the back of the win India took a 1-0 lead in the series as Dhawan made a good start to his captaincy this series. West Indies won the toss and chose to bat first as Hayden Walsh replaces Motie. Avesh Khan on Sunday became the 244th ODI player for India as he replaced Prasidh Krishna in the playing XI.
West Indies make a brisk start –
Batting first after winning the toss, Kyle Mayers and Shai Hope opened the batting for the home team. Hope was playing his 100th game for West Indies and the pair added 65 runs in the first nine overs. Bought into bowl the 10th over, Deepak Hooda got Mayers out for 39 off 23 balls with 6 fours and a six off his first ball.
Dhawan pouches 2 catches back to back to get India back into the game –
Post the fall of Mayers, Brooks joined Hope and continued the run scoring going. The batters were severe on the loose deliveries dished out by the Indian bowlers. The pair added 62 runs in 74 balls for the 2nd wicket. That’s when Axar Patel got one to turn away and got the edge of Brooks. Dhawan standing at slip grabbed a sharp catch to get rid of Brooks for 35. Brandon King who scored a 50 in the last game was trying to his way out of trouble. That’s when he went for a wild slog and got a top edge and Dhawan got his 2nd catch of the day to dismiss King for a duck, and West Indies were 130 for 3.
