India and England finally finished the test series which started a year ago with the series ending 2-2. England ran out winners in the rescheduled final test at Birmingham by 7 wickets. England chased down a mammoth 378 set by India as Root and Bairstow scored centuries. England achieved the win on the final day needing 119 runs and did it with ease just before lunch. This was England’s 4th win in a row after beating New Zealand 3-0 to give the McCullum and Ben Stokes combine a chance to keep their unbeaten start intact.
The story as it happened –
The 5th test match saw a lot of tempers getting frayed as both the teams went at it on the field with their verbal battles. It began with Virat Kohli and Jonny Bairstow’s little argument on the 3rd day which spurred the Englishman to score a century. There were lot more little battles which took place during the game. Stuart Broad though did not expect a telling off from an unexpected source.
Umpire Richard Kettleborough gives Stuart Broad a warning
James Anderson looked agitated when he came into bat on day 3 of the Edgbaston test. Broad came into bat with Sam Billings at the other end, Broad was seen having plenty to say during his short stint in the middle. The umpire had enough and had a say to Broad and gave him a firm warning. Broad still kept going at it till the umpire asked him to Shut up and play. BBC put up the video of the chat on the stump mic and the umpire was heard saying “Let us do the umpiring and you do the batting, alright? Otherwise, you are going to get into trouble again. One for the over. Broady! Broady! Get on with the batting and shut up.”

Game to forget for Broad –
Stuart Broad went into the history books as he gave away 35 runs in the over while bowling to Bumrah. Broad got the wicket of Shami in the first innings to picked his 550th test wicket. But it all went downhill from there, Broad finished with 1/89 from his 18 overs in the first innings. With the bat he scored just 1 as he went for a wild slog off Siraj to be caught by Pant. In the 2nd innings broad picked 2 wickets which included Pujara for 66 and Vihari for 11 to end with figures of 2/58.
