Watch! Surya Kumar Yadav’s state of mind caught on stump mic before getting out

x

India began their 2022 T20 World Cup campaign with a match against Australia on Monday. This was the 1st Warm Up game of the tournament for the men in blue, which was played at the Gabba. India and Australia had just played each other in a 3 match T20I series with India winning 2-1. India’s 2nd and final Warm Up match will be against New Zealand on Wednesday.

The story as it happened–

32 year old Surya Kumar Yadav has been in decent nick with the bat in recent times. The swashbuckling right hander has been jostling with the Pakistani duo of Rizwan and Azam for the top spot in T20I ranking. On Monday, Yadav played yet another important knock in his very first out in Australia.

Surya Kumar Yadav’s voice caught on stump mic-

Yadav was facing Kane Richardson and just reached his half century which had 6 fours and a six. Yadav was heard telling non striker Axar Patel “Maarne ka mood nahi hai yaar” (I don’t feel like hitting). The irony was that Surya Kumar Yadav was out next ball while offering a return catch to Richardson.

Rahul gives India a quick start –

KL Rahul has been under the eye of the storm for a few months now owing to his strike rate issues. There was no cause for concern as Gabba saw KL Rahul score runs at a frenetic pace. The Indian vice captain scored 57 off mere 33 balls with 6 fours and 3 massive sixes. Rahul and Rohit added 78 runs for the 1st wicket at a run rate of over 10 runs per over before Rahul was dismissed.

Rohit and Kohli get starts –

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was pedestrian at the non striker’s end as he was seeing Rahul explode. When he got his turn he played some delightful shots to score 15 including one four and one six. Rohit was dismissed by Ashton Agar, former India skipper Kohli looked decent in his 19 from 13 balls before falling to Starc.

Pandya disappoints with bat and ball as DK warm ups –

It wasn’t the best start for Hardik Pandya as he scored just 2 runs with the bat off 5 balls before being caught by Tim David off Kane Richardson. Pandya was expensive with the ball as well he went for 29 runs from his 3 overs. Dinesh Karthik on the other scored a 14 ball 20 with a four and six to signal his form to the world ahead of the 2022 T20 World Cup.

Bhuvneshwarshows his old form with the ball –

32 year old pacer, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been under pressure in recent times. On Monday, Kumar got the key wickets of first Mitchell Marsh for 35 off 18. Kumar, then got the wicket of Glenn Maxwell caught behind by Dinesh Karthik.

Harshal, Arshdeep and Chahal pick a wicket each –

Yuzvendra Chahal warmed up with 1/28 from his 3 overs as he got the key wicket of Steve Smith for 12. Arshdeep, went for over 11 runs per over with the ball and got the wicket of Stoinis. Harshal bowling the 19th over was amazing but had been hit for a few runs prior to that before he got the wicket of Finch, bowled with a peach of a yorker.

Shami sizzles at Gabba –

The final over of the game saw, Rohit Sharma throw the ball to Mohammad Shami, who had replaced Bumrah for the tournament. Shami managed to pick 3 wickets including that of Pat Cummins caught brilliantly by Kohli. Shami then nailed 2 yorkers back to back to dismiss Inglis and Richardson to hand India  a close 6 run win.
