Australia the defending World T20 champions have laid down the gauntlet. Aaron Finch and his men are gearing for the upcoming 2022 T20 World Cup in grand style. Australia have beaten two time champs West Indies by a 2-0 margin. The West Indies will be seen playing the qualifiers to get into the main pool of the World Cup.

The man of the hour though is 26 year old new entrant to the Australian side Tim David. The right hander who previously played for Singapore, will be turning out for Australia and playing his first major tournament this year.

Tim David’s 110 meter six –

After winning the 1st game at Carrara Oval, the Gabba was the venue for the 2nd game. Tim David flexed his muscles to score a quick 20 ball 42. His innings had 4 fours and 3 sixes. One of the sixes was off Obed McCoy, when David pulled deep into the stands. The ball travelled into the 2nd tier to be measured at 110 meters. The assault from David had the world watching in awe as the power hitting was immaculate.

David Warner sizzles with 75 –

Batting first, Australia had another David to thank as Warner scored a blistering 75 off 41 balls with 10 fours and 3 sixes. Cameron Green was out early for 1, while Finch batting at 3 scored 15 off 19. Steve Smith scored 17 as Maxwell was out for just a single. The assault by Tim David and a crucial 14 ball 16 by Wade helped the home side reach 178 on the board.

Disciplined show by West Indian bowlers –

The West Indies had the Australian middle order walking on a tight rope before Tim David could come in. Alzarri Joseph picked 3/21 from his 4 overs with pace and bounce. McCoy despite conceding 33 from his 3 overs picked 2 wickets, including that of Tim David.

Australia coast to easy 31 run win –

Chasing 179 for a win, none of the West Indian batters could capitalize from the starts they got. Johnson Charles was the top scorer with 29 off 30 balls with 2 fours and a six. Akeal Hossein was the 2nd highest scorer with 25. Mitchell Starc was the leading wicket taker for Australia with 4/20, while Pat Cummins picked 2 wickets, Green and Zampa picked a wicket each. West Indies finished on 147 to lose the game by 31 runs.

English test awaits Australia –

Australia next played traditional rivals England in a 3 game T20 series starting Sunday at the Perth Stadium. The next 2 games will be played at the Manuka Oval at Canberra on Wednesday and Friday. This is the final chance for both the teams to warm up before the 2022 T20 World Cup kicks off next Sunday.
