The day is finally here as India and England square off in the rescheduled 5th test match at Birmingham. The series began last year and India held a 2-1 lead before the final test match was postponed due to COVID cases in the Indian camp. England had already named their squad with just one change. Sam Billings coming in for Ben Foakes who was down with COVID. India had a change too as Rohit Sharma the regular skipper missed the game due to COVID-19 and Bumrah took the field as the captain.
Virat Kohli heads back to the pavilion after back luck continues –
At the fall of the wicket 2nd wicket, there was huge cheer when Kohli walked in to bat at number 4. By the time the crowd could get a look at Kohli the rains came down to force an early lunch. Last time India played here on this ground, Kohli scored 149 to fight a lone battle for India. With 2 crisp shots it seemed Kohli was back in form as he was looking in the mood. With the score reading 71, Kohli tried to shoulder arms to a ball from Potts. The ball took the edge of the bat and went to disturb the stumps and get a huge wicket for England. Kohli slung his head down in sadness as he walked back for 11 off 19 balls.
English bowling comes to the fore –
Ben Stokes won the toss and chose to bowl first on a day where it looked like there will be help for the seamers. Gill and Pujara opened the innings and looked good in the first half hour. Gill in particular looked easy on the eye with some classic shots, but against the run of play, Gill poked one off Anderson to Crawley to be dismissed for 17. Pujara struggled yet again and was dismissed by Crawley and Anderson combine for 13. Vihari batting at 3 was out LBW for 6 to Potts. After the fall of Kohli, in walked Shreyas Iyer and he looked aggressive from the start. Iyer was done in down the leg side as he was dismissed by Anderson caught by Sam Billings for 15 off 11 balls.
