Ranji Trophy 2022 season began on Tuesday with the eyes of the outgoing Indian selection team on the upcoming players. The Chetan Sharma led Indian selection committee will be watching the players during the 1st round of games which started on December 13th, 2022.
These games during the 1st round of games represent a great chance for the forgotten Indian stars to make a comeback. There is also a chance for the fringe players or youngsters to stake a claim to make their names in the Indian selection scheme of things.
Ishan Porel serves reminder at the right time –
24 year old Bengal seamer, Ishan Porel might be a name many might remember. He was part of the Prithvi Shaw led team which won the under-19 world cup in 2018. Since then he has fallen off the radar a little bit.
Playing for Bengal against UP, the 24 year old bowled a beautiful inswinger which left the UP captain Karan Sharma stunned and clueless. Sharma could only look back as he heard the death rattle to fall for 10 off 39 balls with 2 fours to his name.
Bengal bowlers leave UP reeling as Porel picks 5–
Winning the toss and choosing to bowl first, Bengal bowlers had the UP openers back in the hut early. Pritam Chakraborthy got 1st wicket of A. Suryavanshi for a duck as Porel got the wicket of Madhav Kaushik for a blob as well to leave UP at 0 for 2. Karan Sharma fell with the score reading 26.
Priyam Garg scored 53 off 105 balls with 7 fours and added 89 runs with Rinku Singh. The stand was broken when Porel had Garg out caught behind, and followed it up with a wicket of Akshdeep Nath for 1 and A. Yadav for 18 to pick his 5 wicket haul.
At the time of writing UP were 168/6 with Rinku Singh on 69
Porel’s domestic numbers –
Ishan Porel made his Ranji debut in 2017, and till now has played 29 games picking 81 wickets. He had 3 five wicket hauls before this game against UP. Porel has also played 30 List A games picking 47 wickets and 22 T20 games with 30 wickets. Porel doesn’t have the pace like Nagarkotti or Mavi but has accuracy and the ability to bowl the Glenn McGrath like lengths.
