The 1st test between India and Bangladesh began on Wednesday. The two match series is important for India keeping in mind important WTC points up for grabs. India, came into the game with KL Rahul as the captain with Rohit Sharma out injured.

This meant that Shubman Gill was opening the batting, despite the presence of Abhimanyu Eeswaran in the reserves. These two are the final tests for India before the end of the year. India, will next play a 4 match series against Australia in early 2023.

The story as it happened –

India won the toss and chose to bat first with the pitch wearing a dry look. India had two seamers and 3 spinners in their XI with Kuldeep Yadav playing his first test in 22 months. For Bangladesh, Zakir Hasan was making his debut becoming the 101st cricketer for Bangladesh to do so.

Shubman Gill falls to a reckless shot –

With the score reading 41 for no loss, the Indian team was looking good to go through the 1st session without losing a wicket. Shubman Gill, went for a paddle scoop sweep only to give an easy catch to Yasir Ali, who moved from slip to leg slip to take the catch.

Gill was out for 20 after facing 40 balls with 3 fours in his innings. The Indians had lost their first wicket just when they seemed set after seeing the new ball away.

Bangladesh strike two huge blows –

Once the home team picked the wicket of Gill, they got their tails up. The next to go was captain KL Rahul as he chopped a ball back on to his stumps for 22. Virat Kohli, who had scored a century in the final ODI at the same ground continued his search for a test ton.

Taijul Islam got one to turn back in sharply as the former India skipper was struck in front of his stumps and was out for 1. This left India at 48/3 having lost 3 wickets for mere 8 runs.

At the time of writing India were 85/3 at lunch after having played 26 overs with Pant and Pujara at the crease.

Twitter reacts –
