Sri Lanka and Namibia kicked off the T20 World Cup 2022 on Sunday at the Geelong Stadium at Melbourne. The tournament began with the 2014 T20 world champions playing first in a bid to make it to the Super 12 stages. Namibia on the other hand have been putting the world on notice with the way they have been playing. The Namibians had qualified for the main stages of the tournament during the 2021 T20 world cup held at UAE late last year.

Theekshana shines with the ball –

Maheesh Theekshana has become a huge player with the ball for Dasun Shanaka. The 22 year old first grabbed headlines with his stint with CSK. He then played a huge role for Sri Lanka in the 2022 Asia Cup win. Theekshana on Sunday, picked 1/23 from his 4 overs with the wicket of David Wiese.

Maheesh Theekshana turns β€œArcher”-

Bowling the 15th over of the Namibian batting innings, Theekshana saw David Wiese on Strike. The 2nd ball saw the bowler bowl one outside with the batter looking for a cut. The ball took the edge of the bat, but Wiese went up for the DRS. The 3rd umpire confirmed there was a nick and the batter was back in the hut for a 1st ball duck.

Theekshana then went down on his knees to pull out an imaginary bow and arrow and did the archery routine of hitting the bulls-eye. The Sri Lankan fielders flanked Theekshana as they had the Namibian team reeling at 93/6.

Ben Shikongo leaves Sri Lanka in early trouble –

chasing 164 to win, Sri Lanka were in early trouble at 40 for 4 after 6.3 overs. Kusal Mendis was the 1st to go for 6 when he was sent back by David Wiese. 22 year old Ben Shikongo then struck twice in two balls as Pathum Nissanka and Gunathilaka went back to the hut in successive balls.

Nissanka was caught by Smit for 9, while Gunathilaka was caught behind for 1st ball duck. It was soon 40/4 when Dhananjaya De Silva holed out for 12 caught by Ben Shikongo off Jan Frylinck.
