Indian domestic season for the year 2022 began with the Duleep Trophy which was won by West Zone. The Saurashtra Cricket Association is the place to be as the 1st of 2 Irani Trophy matches. The first match will see 2019/2020 champs Saurashtra take on rest of India team, while current champs MP take on ROI team much later.

The story as it happened –

Jasprit Bumrah’s injury has opened up a chance for some of the other bowlers to stake a claim for the spot in the team. One of the bowlers who is vying a spot in the side for the T20 World Cup 2022 is Umran Malik. The 22 year old speedster is playing for the rest of India squad which is taking on Saurashtra in the Irani Cup Trophy game. Malik is rumored to be part of the squad which is to fly to Australia as a standby player.

Umran Malik leaves Arpit Vasavada stunned –

Saurashtra batting first were totally left stunned by the seam bowling of Mukesh Kumar. The eyes of the world was on Umran Malik who was bought into bowl first change by skipper Vihari. Bowling the 10th over to Vasavada, the 2nd ball sped for a 4, the next ball though it was all over. Malik, bowling round the wicket got the ball to come in and beat the batter for pacer to knock the top of his leg stump.


Rest of India bowlers have Saurashtra in trouble –

Mukesh Kumar who recently created an impression for India A against New Zealand A was in top form again. The 29 year old medium pacer had the Saurashtra players in trouble. He began by dismissing Harvik Desai and Chirag Jani off successive balls. Pujara batting 4 was caught by Vihari off Kuldeep Sen, while going for a wild slash for 1. Kumar then got the wicket of Snell Patel for 4 before Vasavada fell to Malik for 22 off 19 balls with 4 fours. Kumar got his 4th of the day when he had Sheldon Jackson caught by Sarfaraz Khan for 2 to leave Saurashtra at 34 for 6.
