India began their 2022 World T20 campaign with a last ball win over Pakistan at the MCG. India thanks to 82 not out by Virat Kohli won the game by 4 wickets in hand in the last ball of the game. The entire game was a topsy turvy affair as the Pakistan bowlers showed their might early in the game. It was Kohliโ€™s century run stand with Hardik Pandya which swung the match in Indiaโ€™s favor.

Virat Kohliโ€™s tearful end to the game โ€“

Dinesh Karthik was out with India needing 2 runs in 2 as he was stumped by Rizwan off Mohammad Nawaz. This got Ashwin got the crease who moved away from the crease to make it 1 off 1. Ashwin then lifted Nawaz over the infield to signal a famous for India.

Kohli was emotional as he punched the ground and was carried by Rohit Sharma. The former India skipper looked up at the sky and started to pray to god and had tears in his eyes when he was making his way off the field.

Pakistan score 159 โ€“

India won the toss and chose to bowl first as Arshdeep got the wicket of Babar Azam for a 1st ball duck. Rizwan then fell as he was caught by Bhuvneshwar Kumar for 4. Iftikhar and Shan Masood then scored half centuries as Indian bowlers carved the middle order open.

Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya picked 3 wickets each as Pakistan scored 159 thanks to some useful lower order runs from Afridi. This meant India had a target of 160 to win from their 20 overs.

India rocked early to 31/4 โ€“

India lost the wicket of KL Rahul as he was bowled by Naseem Shah. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was caught in the slips off Haris Rahul as Surya Kumar Yadav too fell to Rauf. When Axar Patel was run India was in a sorry state at 31/4 with Pakistan looking favorites to win the game.

Pandya and Kohli bring India back into the game โ€“

Hardik Pandya and Kohli saw off the initial few overs before Pandya launched an attack on the Pakistani bowlers. The pair added 144 runs for the 5th wicket as both hit fours and sixes and ran well between the wickets.

Pandya falls for 40 but Kohli carries India home โ€“

India needed 32 off 12 balls and the equation boiled down to 28 off 8 balls as the hopes were soon fading. Thatโ€™s when Kohli hit Rauf for 2 back to back sixes to make it 16 off 12. The first ball of the final over bowled by Nawaz saw Pandya out. Karthik then came out and got a single of his 1st ball.

Nawaz then bowled a full toss which Kohli hit for a six as the umpire signalled it no ball and a wide later, India ran 3 bye runs off the free hit. Once the winning runs was hit by Ashwin there was pandemonium amongst the Indian crowd as Kohli was hero of the day.
