India won the 3 match ODI series by 7 wickets with over 30 overs to go to soundly thrash the South African team. India came back from 1-0 down to win the last two games to take the series 2-1. This marked yet another series win for Shikhar Dhawan as the skipper of the Indian team. The left handed batter had led the Indian side to a series win in West Indies with a 3-0 margin with the other big names missing the series.

David Miller left stunned by Washington Sundar –

New Delhi pitch looked to aid spin right from the start with the slowness visible. Washington Sundar was called early into the attack and was his economical best. The moment of the game was witnessed in the 5th ball of the 19th over with Miller facing Sundar.

The youngster bowling round the wicket bowled a classical off spinners ball to catch Miller going on the backfoot. The Stand in South African skipper missed the line of the ball and was castled with the ball hitting the off stump. Miller was in complete shock as he made his way back to the hut as the Indians were overjoyed.

Kuldeep Yadav leads the way with the ball –

South Africa were never looking settled as they played the final game of the 3 match ODI series. Sundar got the wicket of De Kock for 6, and Siraj then did double damage with the wickets of Malan and Hendricks. Shahbaz Ahmed picked the wicket of Markram caught behind for 9.

Kuldeep Yadav then took over when he first Phelukwayo bowled for 5, Shahbaz Ahmed got his 2nd wicket when he had Klassen bowled for 34. Yadav then polished off the tail by getting the wickets of Fortuin and Nortje off back to back balls. South Africa were all out for 99 with Marco Jansen perishing for 14 to give his Yadav his 4th wicket. Kuldeep Yadav bowled 4.1 overs with a maiden and picked 4/18.

India romp home to easy win –

Chasing 100 to win, India were never expected to be put under pressure. Shikhar Dhawan failed yet again getting run out for 8, while Ishan Kishan was out for 10. The left hander had scored 93 at Ranchi, but couldn’t reprise his heroics when he fell to Fortuin caught behind by De Kock. Gill and Iyer then added 39 before the young Gill who scored 49 was out LBW to Ngidi with India needing just 3. Iyer walked down the track to the 1st ball of the 20th over and smacked Jansen for a huge six to seal the deal for the home team. Iyer stayed not out on 28 off 23 balls while Samson scored 2* off 4 balls as India won by 7 wickets with 185 balls to spare.

South African direct qualification takes huge hit –

South Africa are placed 2nd to bottom in the ICC table and with this series loss their hopes for direct qualification for the 2023 ODI world cup has a taken a huge hit. 4 time World Cup semi finalist might have to get to the main tournament via the qualifier route next year.
