Indian selectors on Saturday announced the team for the test series against Sri Lanka. 4 senior players, Pujara, Rahane, Ishant and Saha have been dropped for the 2 match series. 37 year old Saha has been in the news recently for pulling out of the Ranji Trophy. There were questions that he could possibly retire, but Saha now finds himself in the eye of the storm. He had said a couple of things post his drop from the team which has created a controversy. Saha though also was at the end of an unfortunate event which had earned him support.
The story as it happened –
37 year old test specialist Wriddhiman Saha recently put out a Whatsapp chat where he was threatened by a senior Journalist. The unnamed Journalist in question had made some unpleasant comments on the messaging platform. Saha was said by the scribe that “he wont forget “ that Saha denied him an interview. Saha taking to twitter posted the Screenshots of the chat, without revealing the name of the scribe. Saha wrote “after all my contributions to Indian cricket, this is what I face from a so-called ‘respected’ journalist! This is where journalism has gone”

Sehwag and Bhajji come out in support –
Once Saha made this tweet, former Indian team mates Virender Sehwag and Harbhajan Singh made no bones about their disgust. Sehwag took to twitter and lambasted the unnamed scribe and came out in support of Saha. Sehwag wrote “extremely sad, such sense of entitlement, neither is he respected nor a journalist, just chamchagiri, with you wriddhi”. Bhajji on the other hand was more curt and tagged the powers to be in the BCCI and wrote. “Wriddhi you just name the person so that the cricket community knows who operates like this. Else even the good ones will be put under suspicision. What kind of journalism is this”

Saha garners support –
Wriddhiman Saha has come out and said Indian coach Rahul Dravid has told him that his international career is over. The 37 year old said that Dravid had told him he wont be looked at for future selections. Saha last played against New Zealand in the 2 test series at home. Despite having an injury in the 1st test at Kanpur he batted well for 61 runs to bail India out of trouble. Saha was praised for his glove work during the Mumbai test with the ball turning square. Saha has been preferred over Pant for his safe glove work and skills behind the stumps in India. KSBharat has got a call up for the 2 match series against Sri Lanka. This could possibly mean that’s the end of Saha’s test and India career.
