Indian Cricket: fans outrage at Star Sports for their portrayal of Rohit Sharma

In just a weeks, Indian cricketers will be back on the field after enjoying a short break. The Indian team’s first series back after the break will be a full fledged tour of West Indies which start on 12th July. The eyes and focus of the fans will be on Rohit Sharma as he aims to lead the Indian to an ICC title after a loss in the World Test championships final recently.

Rohit’s first big challenge –

The first big challenge ahead for Rohit Sharma is the 2023 Asia Cup which is to be held in Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The Indian team will play all their games in Sri Lanka including a potential three time encounter against Pakistan. If India wins the Asia Cup 2023 in the 50 over format, it will be seen as a huge boost for the men in blue.

Star Sports India’s poster for Asia Cup 2023 –

Asia Cup 2023 will be broadcasted on Star Sports and the series starts from 31st August. The host broadcaster put out a poster digitally for the same with Virat Kohli’s face being shown prominently. This was followed by the Indian captain Rohit Sharma and vice captain Hardik Pandya in the background. The digital poster also included the other captains like Dasun Shanaka, Shakib AL Hasan, Rashid Khan and Babar Aza,

Star Sports India’s motive questioned –

Many cricket fans and Rohit Sharma supporters in particular aren’t too pleased with the insult to the national captain. One user by the name Vaibhav Bhola took to Twitter and wrote “Rohit Sharma is captain, Hardik Pandya is vice captain still Star Sports has put Virat Kohli picture in the front. Does this clearly mean, Virat Kohli is bigger brand in Indian cricket today as well??”


India grouped with Nepal and Pakistan –

Just like the 2022 Asia Cup, the fans will witness India and Pakistan play each other. The two rivals have been grouped with Nepal, who will be playing their first big event. The second group has Afghanistan, Bangladesh and defending champions Sri Lanka.

India and Pakistan are favorites to make it to the nest phase and will again play each other in the 2nd phase. If the two teams make the final, it would mean a third meeting between the two sides.

India and Pakistan meet each other head to head on 15th October at Ahmedabad in the 2023 ODI cricket world cup. It is an exciting times for cricket fans with so much action coming up. The fans are waiting to see how Rohit Sharma and his men perform and if they can bring both the Asian and World Titles home.
