Mahendra Singh Dhoni is back home and enjoying his time away from the game. The 41 year old former Indian skipper was last seen leading Chennai Super Kings during the TATA IPL 2023 season. MS Dhoni led his side to their 5th IPL title win, in what many viewed as his final season for the team in yellow. While MS Dhoni is controversy free on the field of play, off the field there have been times when the former Indian captain has had to face controversies.

The story as it happened –

IPS officer from Tamil Nadu has to face charges from MS Dhoni on counts of Contempt of Court. MS Dhoni has slapped these charges in regards of a few comments made by Sampath Kumar regarding MS Dhoni on the IPL 2013 spot fixing saga. As per MS Dhoni’s written statement the comments made by Mr. Sampath Kumar were in contempt of court both the High and the Supreme Court.

MS Dhoni gives a written statement –

The case against Mr. Sampath Kumar came up for hearing on Thursday 15th June, 2023. MS Dhoni gave a written statement which read He has stated that the Supreme Court deviated from the rule of law and kept the deposition of the Justice Mudgal Committee, which was constituted to probe the 2013 match-fixing allegations, in a sealed cover for reasons he failed to comprehend”

CSK faced a two year suspension –

IPL 2013 saw the Spot Fixing saga take place where players from Rajasthan Royals and few officials from CSK came into the picture. Sreesanth, then a noted Indian fast bowler along with Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandilla were the player names that came into focus. Post the entire episode, both Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals were slapped with a two year suspension.

IPL 2016 and 2017 saw both the teams away as MS Dhoni moved to play for Rising Pune Supergiants. By the time the suspension came into place, CSK were already two time IPL champs and 2 time Champions league winners, as well being 4 time runners up, while RR were the inaugural champions in 2008.

Chennai Super Kings make a strong comeback –

Post the re-entry of CSK, they have won the IPL thrice, first in 2018, then the 2021 and finally the 2023 season. MS Dhoni has been at the forefront of the revival after CSK’s bad seasons in 2020 and 2022.

MS Dhoni will now be getting back in shape after he promised the fans of playing one more season in 2024.
