Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants faced off against each other on Wednesday. It was a huge game for both the teams as it was the first eliminator game of the TATA Indian Premier League 2023 season. The equation was simple a win will take th3e winner to Ahmedabad while the loser gets knocked out.
The story as it happened –
Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bat first as the five time champs made one change. Hrithik Shokeen came in for Kumar Kartikeya, while Lucknow went in with the same team as the last game.
Cameron Green carries off where he left off from –
Young Australian all rounder Cameron Green came into the game on the back of his brilliant century on Sunday. The right handed batter had scored 100 not out off 47 balls to help Mumbai win the game.
On Wednesday it seemed as if he was still batting past his century as he pulled out his range of strokes. Facing the final ball of the 9th over Green got a short ball from Mohsin Khan. Green just rocked back and hit the left arm pacer for a huge six to show his brute power to the celebrating fans.
Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan fall early –
Mumbai Indians openers, Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan gave their team a great start. The pair went after the Lucknow bowlers to add 30 for the 1st wicket with both the players looking aggressive. Rohit was the first to go when he was out for 11 caught by Badoni off Naveen Ul Haq. Ishan Kishan was the next to go when he was caught behind by Pooran off Thakur for 15.
Surya Kumar Yadav and Green keep the momentum going –
The fall of two quick wickets had Yadav and Green combine to add 66 runs for the 3rd wicket. Yadav was in his full flow as he was seen smashing 2 sixes in his style. Yadav was playing well on 33 along with Green as it seemed they will take Mumbai close to 200 on the board.
Naveen’s double strike pegs Mumbai back –
The match turned again when Naveen Ul Haq first had Yadav caught out for 33 off 20 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes. The pacer from Afghanistan then bowled Green for 41 off 23 balls with 6 fours and a six.
Wadhera helps Mumbai reach 182 –
The loss of 2 quick wickets meant that Tilak Varma and Tim David joined forces to add 43 runs. Thakur had the stand broken when he had David out for 13, while Varma was out for 26 with 2 sixes off 22 balls to Naveen Ul Haq.
Nehal Wadhera was bought in as the impact player and the left hander scored 23 off 11 balls. Wadhera hit 2 fours and 2 sixes as Mumbai reached 182 from their 20 overs. For Lucknow the best bowler on show was Naveen Ul Haq with 4/38, while Yash Thakur picked 3/34 as Mohsin picked 1 wicket.
