Bangalore was the venue as cricket fans thronged to Chinnaswamy stadium. The match was between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royals. The Sanju Samson led side had lost their last game to Lucknow Super Giants. The Bangalore team in their last game had beaten Punjab Kings. The match again saw Virat Kohli lead the team as Faf Du Plessis was slated to be the impact player.
The story as it happened –
Sanju Samson won the toss and chose to bowl first. Both the teams were looking to win the game to solidify their place in the table. Rajasthan wanted to win the game to stay atop the table, while a win for Bangalore would bring them closer to the top 4.
Jos Buttler falls for a duck –
Rajasthan were set 190 to win and the hopes depended on their in form openers Jaiswal and Buttler. Bangalore though had other plans as Mohammad Siraj went through the gate of Buttler and dismissed him for a 2nd ball duck. Virat Kohli, the stand in Bangalore skipper was over the moon. Kohli could be seen mocking Buttler while giving him a send off.
Faf Du Plessis and Maxwell excel again as RCB score 189 –
Trent Boult shocked the Bangalore crowd when he dismissed Kohli for a 1st ball duck. Boult struck again when he had Shahbaz Ahmed out for 2 as RCB were 12/2. Faf Du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell then combined to add 127 for the 3rd wicket.
Regular skipper of Bangalore scored 62 off 39 balls with 8 fours and 2 sixes. Maxwell scored 77 off 44 balls with 6 fours and 4 sixes. Boult and Sandeep Sharma picked 2 wickets each as RCB ended with 189 on the board.
Royals fall short despite late assault –
Chasing 190 to win, Padikkal came out to bat at number 3 as he added 98 runs for the 2nd wicket with Jaiswal in 11 overs. Padikkal scored his 1st half century of the season as he fell for 52 off 34 balls with 7 fours and a six. Jaiswal scored 47 off 37 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes.
Dhruv Jurel tried to fight back with 34 off 16 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes, but Bangalore bowlers held their nerves to win the game. Harshal Patel picked 3/32 from his 4 overs, while Siraj and Willey picked a wicket each.
