IPL 2023: Twitter reacts as Kyle Mayers shows his might with the bat against Punjab Kings

Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants played each other in the 38th game of the TATA Indian Premier League 2023 season. The match was played at Mohali Stadium with both the teams coming into the game in good form. Lucknow had won their last game against Gujarat, while Punjab had beaten Mumbai Indians away from home.

The story as it happened –

Punjab Kings won the toss and chose to bowl as Shikhar Dhawan came back to the team as the captain. Sikander Raza and Kagiso Rabada too made their comeback to the playing XI. Lucknow Super Giants, decided to go with the same team that won the last game.

Kyle Mayers muscles a huge six –

Gurnoor Brar made his debut for Punjab and saw the first ball of the match witness drama. KL Rahul was dropped in the 1st ball of the game as the LSG skipper and Mayers took charge.

The 3rd ball of the third over saw Brar one on the length to Mayers who went for a swipe across the line. The ball travelled a long way as the fans in the ground were starting at the height the ball had as it sailed for a huge six.

Mayers punishes sloppy Punjab –

KL Rahul sc*ored just 12 runs off 9 balls before falling to Rabada after smacking the South African for a six. Rahul and Mayers added 41 for the 1st wicket in just 3.2 overs. Mayers, though kept going as he went after the Punjab bowling which was sloppy at all times. Mayers, scored 54 off 24 balls with 7 fours and 4 sixes before falling to Rabada.

Stoinis and Badoni pile on the agony –

Ayush Badoni walking to bat at number 3, added 33 runs for the 2nd wicket with Mayers in 15 balls. After the fall of the West Indian, the lanky batter from Delhi was joined by Stoinis. The third wicket pair added 89 runs in 46 balls as both the batters were looking dangerous. Badoni scored 43 off 24 balls with 3 fours and 3 sixes before he was dismissed by Livingstone.

Stoinis and Pooran power Lucknow to 258 –

If the Punjab bowlers and fans thought that the fall of Badoni will get them respite they were wrong. Nicolas Pooran came in and smacked Livingstone for 3 fours in a row to signal his intent. Stoinis and Pooran added 76 runs in 29 balls as the PBKS bowlers were smacked all over the park.

Stoinis was out for 72 off 40 balls with 6 fours and 5 sixes galling to Sam Curran. Pooran scored 45 off 19 balls with 7 fours and a six. Deepak Hooda with 11* and Krunal Pandya with 5 not out saw Punjab Kings score an imposing 257 on the board, which is the 2nd highest total in the history of IPL.
