49th game of the TATA Indian Premier League saw Mumbai Indians take on Chennai Super Kings. The match was played at the MA Chidambaram stadium in front of a packed crowd. Chennai came into the game after their last game against Lucknow was rained out and had to share a point each. Mumbai, meanwhile came into the game after getting a huge win over Punjab, after they chased down 215 run target.
The story as it happened –
Chennai Super Kings captain, MS Dhoni won the toss and chose to bowl first on a overcast day. The home team went in with the same side as the last game. Mumbai, made two changes, with Raghav Goyal making his debut and Tristan Stubbs coming into the game.
MS Dhoni outsmarts Rohit Sharma –
Rohit Sharma came into the game with just 184 runs from the entire season so far. Rohit had got out for a 3rd ball duck against Punjab. Sensing the pressure the MI captain was under, Dhoni decided to go upto the stumps. Rohit went for a paddle scoop only to give a simple catch to Jadeja for yet another 3rd ball duck.
Mumbai top order crumbles –
Cameron Green and Ishan Kishan came out to bat as the openers with Rohit dropping himself to number 3. The first over saw both the openers signal their intent to score big. Tushar Deshpande got the wicket of Green for 6, while Chahar got Kishan for 7 and Rohit for a duck in the same over. Mumbai were reduced to 14/3 in the 3rd over.
Nehal Wadhera fights a lone battle –
Surya Kumar Yadav scored 26 runs off 22 balls before he was bowled by Jadeja to give Chennai a huge wicket. The pair of Wadhera and Yadav had added 55 runs for the 4th wicket. There was 54 more runs between Stubbs and Wadhera as the left handed batter scored his 1st ever T20 fifty.
Pathirana restricts Mumbai to 139 –
Matheesha Pathirana continued his good bowling form when he picked 3/15 from his 4 overs. The young Sri Lankan was spot on with his Yorkers both on the stumps and away. Mumbai Indians could only score 139 from their 20 overs as Wadhera top scored with 64. His runs came off 51 balls with 8 fours and a six in his knock.
