IPL 2023: Twitter universe slams Andre Russell for his celebration of Rahul Tripathi’s wicket

Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad squared off against each other on Thursday. The crowd at Hyderabad had turned up to see if their team can turn around from the bad run of results they had recently. Win for either side would keep their hopes and chances alive to make it to the play-offs. Kolkata, began the day in the 8th place, while Hyderabad were 9th in the table. Both the teams had 6 points with the run rate being the only difference in their standings in the points table.

Rahul Tripathi goes on the attack –

Sunrisers Hyderabad were set a target of 172 to win, after getting a good start, SRH lost two quick wickets. Andre Russell was given the ball in the 6th over. Rahul Tripathi was looking in aggressive mood and the 1st ball went for a 4 which was also a no ball. The free hit went for a huge six, the next ball was again hit for 4. 15 runs came off the first two balls of the over.

Russell celebrates the wicket of Tripathi wildly –

The third ball of the over saw Tripathi go down to play a scoop shot. The ball went only till the fine leg region. Vaibhav Arora took an easy catch as Tripathi was out for 20 off 9 balls with 3 fours and a six. The fans saw Russell pump his fists and send Tripathi back to the hut with a with a “way back to the pavilion” action.

Sunrisers suffer yet another loss –

At 124/4 with 48 needed from 36 balls, the Hyderabad team were well on their way to an easy win. The game changed when Klassen was out for 36 off 20 balls with a four and 3 sixes, as Shardul Thakur had him caught by Russell.

Vaibhav Arora then got the wickets of Markram and Jansen as the home team began the slide. Varun Chakravarthy then kept his composure as he defended the 9 runs needed from the last over that was needed.

Big games ahead for both the teams –

The next game for Hyderabad is against Rajasthan to be played at Jaipur on Sunday evening. Kolkata will then take on Punjab Kings in the reverse fixture on Monday. Both the teams, specially Hyderabad need a win to keep their chances alive for the current season and avoid yet another disappointing season.
