Lucknow was the venue as the home team led by KL Rahul strode out to the middle. The game saw Lucknow Super Giants take on Gujarat Titans. The game was important for both the teams. Defending IPL champions, Gujarat Titans have been showing some patchy form in recent times. Lucknow, had beaten table topping Rajasthan Royals away from home in their last game.
The story as it happened –
Hardik Pandya won the toss and chose to bat first on a hot day at Lucknow. Amit Mishra came into the team for Lucknow, as the veteran spinner replaced Yudhivir Singh Charak. For Gujarat Noor Ahmed replaced Joshua Little who will on national duty for the next few games.
Rashid Khan gives Kyle Myers the ultimate departing gift –
Kyle Myers has lost his form with the bat after his blistering start with the bat for Lucknow. On Saturday, the West Indian seemed to be finding his touch back as he scored 24 with 2 fours and a six. That’s when Rashid Khan, put an end to the knock as Myers went for a sweep and lost his stumps. Rashid Khan gave the batter some lip as he was walking back.
Saha and Hardik Pandya power Gujarat to 135 –
Batting first, Krunal Pandya removed Shubman Gill early for a 2 ball duck. Veteran wicket keeper and batter, Wriddhiman Saha scored 47 off 37 balls with 6 fours. The top scorer for Gujarat was none other than Hardik Pandya who scored 66 off 50 balls with 2 fours and 4 sixes. Apart from Vijay Shankar with 10, none of the other batters went past double digits.
KL Rahul’s slow start costs Lucknow yet again –
Chasing 136 to win, KL Rahul played out yet another first over maiden just like he did against Rajasthan in the last game. KL Rahul though was the leading light with the bat as he scored 68 off 61 balls with 8 fours. Kyle Myers 24 and Krunal Pandya with 23 were the other lead scorers.
Mohit Sharma and Noor Ahmed turn the match around –
Rashid Khan just picked 1 wicket, but Noor Ahmed stole the show with 2/18 from his 4 overs. Ahmed dismissed Krunal Pandya and followed it up with the wicket of Nicolas Pooran for 1. Mohit Sharma began the last over with the task of defending 12 runs. The 34 year old got the wickets of KL Rahul and Marcus Stoinis off back to back balls as Gujarat held on to a 7 run win.
