Indian Premier League 2023 season has officially begun its second half of the season. Game number 36 witnessed Royal Challengers Bangalore take on Kolkata Knight Riders at the Chinnaswamy stadium. Win for Virat Kohli and his team will see them move closer to the top of the table. Kolkata on the other hand have been on a losing run and are occupying the 8th place in the table.

The story so far –

Virat Kohli yet again came out as the skipper and confirmed that Faf Du Plessis will play as the impact player. Bangalore captain Kohli won the toss and chose to bowl first. Nitish Rana too stated he wanted to bat first on a good track at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. Kolkata made one change as Vaibhav Arora came in for Kulwant Khejroliya.

Jason Roy’s brutal assault on Shahbaz Ahmed –

Englishman Jason Roy, played a blinder in the last game against Chennai on Sunday. The right hander kept his good form going as he went after the Bangalore bowling right at the start.

Shahbaz Ahmed was given the 6th over and that was his only over. Jagadeesan took a single off the 1st ball. The next 3 balls saw Roy dispatch Ahmed over the boundary for sixes. The 5th ball was a dot ball but the 6th again went for a six as 25 runs came off the single over by Shahbaz Ahmed.


Kolkata get off to a good start –

Jagadeesan and Roy gave Kolkata a good start as they added 83 for the wicket with Roy doing bulk of the scoring. Roy scored his 2nd successive 50 and 4th off his IPL career before falling for 56. Roy’s knock came off 29 balls with 4 fours and 5 sixes, while Jagadeesan scored 27 off 29 balls.

Rana and Venkatesh Iyer punish RCB’s slugging fielding –

At 88/2, Kolkata were in danger of losing their way after the brisk start. Venkatesh Iyer and Nitish Rana though added 80 runs for the 3rd wicket in 44 balls. Iyer and Rana both fell in the same over to Hasaranga. Iyer scored 31 off 26 balls, while Rana scored 48 off 21 balls with 3 fours and 4 sixes.

Rinku Singh scored 18 not out of 10 balls with 2 fours and a six, while David Wiese swung his bat to score 12 off 3 balls with 2 sixes as Kolkata reached 200 on the board.
