Royal Challengers Bangalore fans who were at the top of their voice at the start of the season, were shell shocked. Despite scoring a massive 212 runs from their 20 overs, Bangalore lost the game to Lucknow Super Giants. The match was yet another close contest for a second day running. Sunday saw Rinku Singh hit five sixes off 5 balls to win the game for Kolkata Knight Riders against Gujarat Titans.
The story as it happened –
Royal Challengers Bangalore came into the game after having lost against Kolkata Knight Riders by 81 runs. Lucknow on the other hand had won their previous game by 5 runs. Faf Du Plessis and his side though were counting on the home ground experience as they had beaten Mumbai by 8 wickets to kick off their campaign.
Harshal Patel’s failed Mankad attempt –
Lucknow Super Giants needed 1 run off 1 ball with 1 wicket left in the bank. The batter on strike was Avesh Khan. Harshal Patel saw non striker Ravi Bishnoi out of his crease. That’s when the 31 year old tried to dismiss Bishnoi using the Mankad, but missed the connection with the stumps.
Seeing Bishnoi still out of the crease, Patel threw the ball at the stumps. The on field umpires though did not go ahead with the appeal. The reason being they deemed the ball was dead as soon as Patel missed the Mankad attempt. Bishnoi was out of the crease when Patel hit the stumps.

Dinesh Karthik’s fumble gives Lucknow a win –
Avesh Khan was on strike when Harshal Patel loaded up again and bowled a perfect yorker. Khan, missed the ball and ran for the single as Dinesh Karthik threw the ball to the non strikers end after fumbling the initial gather. Harshal Patel too missed the stumps as Lucknow won the game by 1 wicket. Avesh Khan threw down his helmet in an animated celebration.

Many fans took this chance to have a go at the veteran Dinesh Karthik who in 2022 enjoyed his best year. Fans took to Twitter to use this as a reason to state the greatness of MS Dhoni.
