d

Crowd came in huge numbers to the Narendra Modi stadium on Monday. The game was between Gujarat Titans the defending champions and Chennai Super Kings the 4 time winners. The match was the final of the 2023 TATA Indian Premier League.

The match was being played on Monday, which happened to be a reserve day as the game was washed out on Sunday due to rains. This was the last game for Ambati Rayudu who had called time on his career. MS Dhoni too was potentially playing his last game as he is yet to make the decision regarding his future clear.

The story as it happened –

MS Dhoni won the toss and decided that Chennai Super Kings will bowl first. This was for the 2nd time a visiting captain was choosing to field at the same ground in two games. Both the teams went into the big game with the same team that played their last games.

Jadeja and Dhoni combine to get rid of dangerous Shubman Gill –

Shubman Gill was the man in focus after his 60 ball 129 against Mumbai in the previous game to get the Titans to the final. The last ball of the 7th over saw Jadeja turn one away and MS Dhoni pull of the bails in quick fashion. The Chennai players were confident as the umpire went upstairs. While there was no edge on the bat, MS Dhoni had got Gill out stumped with the 23 year old way outside his crease.

Gill makes Chennai pay after early let off –

Tim David had dropped Gill when Mumbai and Gujarat locked horns in the 2nd play off. On Monday it was Deepak Chahar who was stationed at square leg who gave Gill the let off when he was on 3.

The youngster then showed how dangerous that dropped chance could be when he went after the Chennai bowling. Gill played all his strokes as he scored 39 off 20 balls including 3 back to back fours off one Maheesh Theekshana over.
