It was a comprehensive start to the series for Indian cricket team. The innings and 132 runs win gave them 1-0 lead in the series. The match got over in under 3 days as there were 7 more sessions to play. This gave Rohit Sharma a perfect start to the series he has to win, in a bid to make it to the finals of the WTC. It was an important win for India as a 3-1 series win will more or less confirm their place in the show piece match to be held on Oval on June 7-11.
The story as it happened -
Australia came into the first test after having lost the services of Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Cameron green. The visitors also rested Travis Head in a decision which came In for criticism. Now ahead of the second test the visitors have a huge good news as one of the Australian main players is set to make a comeback.
Mitchell Starc ready for a comeback -
Australia left arm seam bowler, Mitchell Starc has been passed fit. Starc last played during the home season for Australia and did not play at Nagpur. The loss of Starc was felt by Australia as only Pat Cummins and Scott Boland played as the two seamers. The addition of Starc in the 11 will not only bolster the bowling but also the lower order batting.
Cameron Green doubtful for the second test -
Young Australia all rounder Cameron Green is more or less likely to miss the Delhi test. As per reports coming out , Green is still slow in the recovery phase and has been working on his fitness. Green suffered an injury to his finger during the boxing day test match at Melbourne. Green was supposed to play the second test before he reinjured it .
David Warner out of the team ?
As per reports earlier this week, David Warner is likely to be dropped from the team. Travis head could come in place of Warner as Matt Renshaw is likely to be promoted to open the innings with Usman Khawaja. The second test begins on Friday at the Arun Jaitley stadium before the final two games are played at Indore and Ahmedabad.
