Tamil Nadu Premier League 2023 season is in full swing as the league phase enters its final round. T20 cricket fans in Tamil Nadu have enjoyed some amazing battles with the bat and ball during the season so far. The game Tuesday saw Lyca Kovai Kings take on Salem Spartans at SCF Cricket Ground in Salem. Lyca came into the game needing a win to qualify for the knockout phase. Salem on the other hand needed a win to keep their spot in the top 4 of the table.
The story so far –
Salem Spartans skipper Abhishek Tanwar won the toss and chose to bowl first. The Lyca team had just lost 1 game in the league phase so far. Local lad Shah Rukh Khan who plays for Punjab Kings had done a great job leading the side.
Fielding team’s Brain – Fade moment
The incident in question happened in the 4th ball of the third over which was bowled by skipper Abhishek Tanwar to Sujay. The Lyca Kovai Kings opener hit the ball to the off side and set off for a quick run. The fielder picked the ball and hit the stumps direct, yet there was no appeal. When the replays came on the big screen, it was seen that Sujay had jumped and hadn’t grounded his bat. What stunned everyone was that none of the fielders from the Spartans appeal for run out.
Lyca Kovai Kings post an imposing 199 on the board –
Put into bat, Kovai Kings scored a massive total of 199 from their 20 overs. Ram Aravindh was the top scorer with 50. His knock came off 22 balls with 2 fours and 5 massive sixes. Sujay scored 44 off 32 balls with 6 fours, while in-form batter Sai Sudarshan scored 41 off 28 balls with 6 fours. Atheeq Ur Rahman swung his bat to score 31 off 18 balls with the help of 3 fours and a six.

Kovai Kings coast an easy 79 run win –
Chasing 200 to win, Salem Spartans were never in the chase as they were bowled out for mere 120. Sunny Sandhu top scored with 29, while Mohammad Adnan Khan and Akash Sumra scored 20 each. K. Gowtham Kannan picked 3 wickets while Shah Rukh Khan the skipper picked 2 wickets. The win meant that Lyca Kovai Kings became the first team to qualify for the knockout phase.
