Wasim Akram names this youngster as Indian cricket’s future

Indian Cricket fans are waiting with bated breath for the finals of the World Test Championships. The Indian team is set to embark on yet another ICC silverware hunt which has eluded them for over a decade now. The game which is to be played from the 7th to 11th of June will see Rohit Sharma’s side take on Pat Cummins’s Australian side. While test and international cricket has taken over the world cannot stop talking about the best season of TATA IPL 2023, we have witnessed which saw Chennai win the title.

The story as it happened –

Former Pakistan captain and left arm pace legend Wasim Akram has been praising MS Dhoni and his side. Wasim Akram who worked a few years with the Kolkata Knight Riders side has been speaking volumes about MS Dhoni after Chennai won its 5th title recently beating Gujarat in the final.

This youngster is the future of Indian cricket –

According to Wasim Akram, while Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal have stolen the show, Ruturaj Gaikwad is the future of Indian cricket. Former Pakistan pace legend was recently in a interview with Sportskeeda where he said

He came up with an excellent performance under pressure. The plus with him is that he is physically very fit. He is a very good fielder and is young as well. (Ruturaj) Gaikwad has a bright future when it comes to Indian cricket as well as the franchises he plays for.”

Gaikwad to miss the WTC final as he ties the knot –

Ruturaj Gaikwad on the back of his amazing performances for Maharashtra and Chennai was picked as a standby for the Indian team. Gaikwad (26) was supposed to head to England as a standby player for the World Test Championships final. Since the young right hander is getting married he opted out and Yashasvi Jaiswal was named as his replacement.

Strong finish to the season –

After scoring just 368 runs during the TATA IPL 2022 season, Gaikwad was back to his best in the 2023 campaign. In the 16 games he played this season he scored 590 runs with 4 half centuries. His best of 92 came in the 1st game of TATA IPL 2023 against Gujarat. The 26 year old had an average of 42 and a strike rate of 147 which was the best ever for him. During the latter half of the tournament, Gaikwad 2 back to back fifties including 79 vs Delhi in the final league game and 60 vs Gujarat in the 1st play off game.
