England and South Africa concluded their 3 match ODI series with the English taking home a 59 run win. The South Africans were looking for a clean sweep to stay in contention for direct qualification for the ICC cricket world cup. It was a day to remember for England, as Jos Buttler, David Malan and Jofra Archer turned heroes in the win.
The Story As It happened –
South Africa won the toss and chose to bowl first and saw Quinton De Kock miss the game along with Keshav Maharaj and Anrich Nortje. In their place came, Reeza Hendricks, Magala and Tabriz Shamsi. England on the hand made just one change as Archer replaced Olly Stone.
Adil Rashid Nutmegs Hendricks –
Chasing 347 to win, South Africa would have fancied their chances as they had chased something similar in the 2nd ODI. The incident happened in the 19th over of the innings with Rashid bowling to Hendricks.
The English leg spinner bowled one pitched on the leg stump. Hendricks, looked to play the ball on the on-side. The ball spun between the batter’s legs and nutmegged him before hitting the stumps to leave England elated and Hendricks stunned.
Heinrich Klassen Stands Tall In The Chase –
Chasing 347 to win, South Africa had captain Temba Bavuma give the home team a good start. Bavuma scored 35 off 27 balls with 5 fours and 1 six in his knock. Hendricks scored 52 off 61 balls with 6 fours in his innings. In form batter Rassie Van Der Dussen was out for 5.
Aiden Markram (39) and Heinrich Klassen tried to resurrect the chase but the English bowlers kept chipping away with wickets. David Miller with 12 and Marco Jansen with 13 tried to stay with Klassen. The right handed batter was out for 80 off 62 balls with 7 fours and 2 sixes as all the hopes of a win for the team vanished.
Archer Seals The Deal –
Jofra Archer is making a comeback to cricket after nearly 2 years out. After picking 1/81 in the 1st ODI, Archer was rested for the 2nd game. In the final game with the series already done and dusted, Archer made a comeback. The 27 year old bowled with fire and pace to pick his 1st ever ODI five wicket haul. Archer ended with figures of 6/40 with some big names like Van Der Dussen, Markram, Miller and Klassen. Archer then came back to clean the tail dismissing Parnell for 34 and Shamsi for 1.

#cricket #ODI #SAvENG comedy dismissal for Reeza Hendricks - aiming a leg side shot, missing, and having the ball sneak through his legs and on to the stumps. SA 112-3 in the 19th over. Hendricks scored 52 off 61 balls.
