Mumbai was the venue as India and Australia locked horns in the 1st of 3 ODI games. The two teams had just played a 4 match test series. India won the series 2-1 to not only win the Border Gavaskar Trophy, but also reached the finals of the World Test Championships. Both the teams came into the short series to use it as a perfect time to prepare for the ODI World Cup to be held later this year.

The story as it happened –

India won the toss and chose to bowl first, considering there could be dew later in the day. Indian captain Rohit Sharma was missing the game, as Hardik Pandya took charge. Australian captain Steve Smith, surprised everyone by leaving out David Warner. Wicket keeper, Alex Carey flew back to Australia due to illness as Josh Inglis replaced him.

Hardik Pandya gets angry at constant interruptions –

Stand- in skipper Hardik Pandya is known to have temper and this was on full show on Friday. The first time, Pandya lost his cool was when he was bowling to Mitchell Marsh. The batter moved way last moment only as there was a fan who was walking past the sightscreen.

Pandya wasn’t happy with it and had a few words with the umpire, with the Indian skipper showing his frustration. The fans too decided to join to irritate Hardik Pandya as they started to shout β€œRCB”.

Indian bowlers skittle Australia out for 188 –

3 wickets each for Mohammad Siraj and Mohammad Shami helped India bowl out Australia for 188. The top scorer for Australia was Mitchell Marsh, who scored 81 off 65 balls with 10 fours and 5 sixes. Ravindra Jadeja, playing his 300th international match, picked 2 wickets, while Shardul Thakur and Kuldeep Yadav picked a wicket each.
