Test Cricket seems to be the flavor of the next few months. Zimbabwe are hosting West Indies for a short series at home. India is scheduled to play 4 tests against Australia starting on 9th February for the Border-Gavaskar trophy.
England are also on a short tour of New Zealand, as the 3 lions are set to take on New Zealand in a 2 match test series. It is the first visit to New Zealand for former national skipper Brendon McCullum who has taken over the test coaching of England.
The story so far β
England took on select New Zealand XI at the Seddon Park at Hamilton for in the only tour warm up game. England won the toss and chose to bat first as Ollie Pope took over the captaincy. England come into the series after whitewashing Pakistan away from home with a 3-0 margin just recently.
Harry Brook flexes his muscles β
England continued their Baz-Ball strategy as they scored an imposing 465 in their 1st innings in just under 70 overs. Harry Brooks who has been in top form with the bat has taken to test cricket with ease.
The 23 year old unleashed his full range of shots in one over that was bowled by 20 year old Aditya Ashok. The first ball was a dot ball but the next 5 balls of the 36th over went sailing over the fences for sixes. Brook who was batting on 56 made his way up to 86 in just one single over.
England lose 3 early wickets β
Ben Duckett got off to a brisk start as he scored 32 off 28 balls with 5 hits to the fence. The first wicket partnership was worth 45, Zak Crawley became the 2nd wicket as he fell for 17. Skipper for the game, Ollie Pope scored 26 off 30 balls with 4 hits as he became the 3rd wicket of the day with the score reading 95 in the 17th over.
Brook top scores as England run riot β
Former skipper Joe Root showed his good form as he scored 77 off 69 balls with 11 fours and 2 sixes. The top scorer of the innings was Harry Brook who hit 97 from just 71 balls with 7 fours and 9 sixes. Daniel Lawrence to swung his bat to score 85 off 55 balls while Ben Foakes scored 57 as England were bowled out for 465 in the 70th over.
Good news for RR and SRH fans β
Joe Root and Harry Brook are scheduled to make their IPL debuts for Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Root was picked in the last few rounds by the men in pink as he will aim to make his IPL debut. SRH on the other hand paid a lot of money to secure Harry Brooks for the TATA IPL 2023 season.
Brookβs amazing test run so far β
Harry Brook made his test debut against South Africa but his moment under the sun came during the 3 game test series against Pakistan. Brook scored 468 runs with 3 centuries and a half century. Overall he has scored 480 runs with an average of 80 and strike rate of 92.
