Indian team on Wednesday steamrolled the New Zealand team to win the final T20 at Ahmedabad. It was an unbelievable effort by Hardik Pandya and his men as India ran out winners by a massive 168 runs. The stars of the show were Shubman Gill and the Indian pacers who did the number over the Kiwi batters. With the virtue of this win, India won the series 2-1 and kept their proud home record intact.
The story so far –
India won the toss and chose to bat first as Umran Malik replaced Yuzvendra Chahal in the playing XI. The Kiwis also made one change as Jacob Duffy made way for debutant Ben Lister. The pitch had a lot in it for the fast bowlers after the spin fest in the first 2 games of the series.
Malik’s searing pacer leaves Bracewell looking helpless –
Umran Malik bowled just 1 over in the first game that he played at Ranchi. The 23 year old was replaced by Chahal for the 2nd game at Lucknow. The ball was handed to Malik in the 5th over and there was immediate impact by the Jammu Express.
Bracewell tried to hit Malik across the line with the Kiwis reeling at 21/4. Malik’s delivery was clocked at 150 KPH as the bails went flying in the air and landed near the 30 yard circle as per Murali Karthik. It was a huge wicket as Bracewell was out for 8.
India score 234 thanks to Shubman Gill’s ton –
Ishan Kishan continued his bad form as he was out for 1 to Michael Bracewell. Rahul Tripathi and Gill then added 80 for the 2nd wicket. Tripathi fell 6 short of maiden 50 when he was out for 44 off 22 balls. Surya Kumar Yadav scored a brisk 25 off 13 balls before falling to Tickner. Gill stood tall as he scored 126 not out off 63 balls in a knock which included 12 fours and 7 sixes.
This was the first ton for the 23 year old and he broke a few records along the way. Gill became the 7th Indian batter to score a T20I century and 5th Indian to score a ton across all formats. Gill’s 126 was also the highest for an Indian batter in T20I cricket going past the 122* by Virat Kohli. Hardik Pandya scored 30 off 17 balls with 4 fours and a six as India scored a huge 234 on the board
Indian pacers decimate New Zealand –
Chasing 235 to win, the Kiwis were rocked early when they lost half their side with 21 on the board. Hardik Pandya and Arshdeep Singh picked 2 wickets each to leave New Zealand at 7/4. The Indian dominance was so rampant that even Shivam Mavi, who had bowled just 3 overs in the first 2 games got 2 wickets. Pandya came back to finish off the game with 2 more wickets to finish with 4/16. Arshdeep, Mavi and Malik picked 2 wickets each as New Zealand were all out for 66 as India won the game by 168 runs.
