Australia ended the 1st day of the final test match at 255/4 from the 90 overs bowled. The hero of the day for the visiting side was opener Usman Khawaja who scored his 14th test century to end the day at 104 off 251 balls along with Cameron Green who is batting on 49 off 64 balls. It was a disappointing day for the Indian bowlers as they toiled hard on a wicket which was a beauty for batting.

The story as it happened –

Steve Smith won the toss and chose to bat first on a wicket which was going to help the batters. Rohit Sharma made one change as Shami came in for Mohammad Siraj. The 32 year old had curiously missed the Indore test. Australia on the other hand went in with the same team that won the Indore test.

Former Indian captain Virat Kohli has been under pressure as he has failed to score with the bat. The 34 year old has just scored 111 runs from the 3 tests in this series with an average of 22.

On Thursday, the heat at Ahmedabad seemed to have gotten to Kohli as he was caught eating some kind of protein bar while Shami was running into bowl. Just as Shami was nearing the bowling crease, Kohli put his snack inside his trouser pockets.

Kohli decides to eat again as he offers it to Shreyas Iyer –

Just as Shami bowled and was going back to his bowling mark, Virat Kohli decided to dig in again. The 34 year old pulled out the snack bar and was seen having yet another bite of it before motioning to Shreyas Iyer. The 28 year old was thrown the snack who quickly caught it and put it in his pants.

Khawaja century gives Australia a good start to the test –

Australian opener, Usman Khawaja scored his 14th test ton as he batted all day to lead his side to 255/4 at stumps. The left hander was watchful as he saw off the early threat of the Indian bowlers. Despite losing 4 wickets at the other end, Khawaja found an ally in Cameron Green and added 85 runs unbeaten for the 5th wicket.

Shami leads the honours for team India –

KS Bharat gave Travis Head an early life when he had dropped him off Umesh Yadav. Head then fell to Ashwin caught by Jadeja for 32. The Indian team struck when Marnus Labuschagne got an inside edge and was bowled for 3. Steve Smith fell for 38 when he was bowled by Jadeja. The final wicket of the day fell to Shami when he had Handscomb bowled for 17 to leave Australia 170/4.
