No other player, Indian or overseas has dominated the Indian Premier League as much as David Warner. The Australian Southpaw has scored over 4700 runs in IPL and is currently the fourth-highest run-getter in IPL.

Over the years, the word consistency has become synonymous to David Warner. 528, 562, 848, 641 and 692. These are the runs scored by Warner since 2014 in each season of IPL. An opener scoring more than 500 runs in a single season of IPL isn’t alien to anyone. But an opener, that too an overseas player scoring a minimum of 500 runs in five consecutive seasons of IPL is no mean feat.
One of his best IPL seasons was the 2016 season where he scored 848 runs. He averaged 60.5 per innings with a strike rate of 151, which is an unbelievable achievement for an opener. It was also the season where David Warner leads the orange army to their maiden IPL title.
Warner has been one of the most consistent run-getters across seasons in IPL and the stats don’t lie. In the history of IPL, David Warner is the only player to have won the orange cap thrice. He ended up as the leading run-getter in 2015, 2017, and 2019.
David Warner in his last five IPL Seasons
Season | Runs | Avg | SR |
2014 | 528 | 48.0 | 141 |
2015 | 562 | 43.2 | 157 |
2016 | 848 | 60.5 | 151 |
2017 | 641 | 58.2 | 142 |
2019 | 692 | 69.2 | 144 |
Whatever be the situation, Warner has only one motto. Hulk See, Hulk Smash. There seems to be no change in his batting approach irrespective of his team batting first or second. Players have known to sweat it out when chasing a total as compared to setting up a total. That is not the case when it comes to the 2016 title-winning Captain.
Warner averages 43.1 both while setting and chasing a total. Let’s take a deeper look into his consistency in both the innings and find out just how great he is. Warner is the only player in IPL to have an average of over 40 in both innings of a match. Just to settle how great a player he is, let us take an example.
Among all the IPL players who have played a minimum of 10 innings while batting 1st and 2nd, David Warner is the only player to have an average over 40.

1st | 2548 | 140 | 43.1 | 60.8 |
2nd | 2158 | 144 | 43.1 | 63.3 |
What differentiates the left-hander with the rest is his ability to change gears with ease. Warner starts the innings with a strike rate of 139 while it drops down a notch in the middle overs. The last five overs are where he unleashes the fury as he strikes at a rate of 190.

The current SRH captain has scored 4706 runs in 126 matches. He needs 294 runs to join the 5000-run club and has a good chance of becoming the fastest to do so.
